W.Va. SAT scores top U.S. averages in reading, writing
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- West Virginia's high school students topped the national average scores for reading and writing on the SAT college-entrance exam.
But a report released Wednesday by the College Board says the state's math scores were below the national average. The College Board administers the test.
According to the report, 2,993 public, private and home-schooled students in West Virginia took the SAT through June. Their average scores were 514 in reading, 497 in writing and 501 in math, all lower than the 2010 average scores of 515 in reading, 500 in writing and 507 in math.
The national SAT averages were 497 in reading, 514 in math and 489 in writing. Nearly 1.65 million students took the test this year.
