Ralph Lauren distribution center to leave W.Va.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. says it will move a distribution center from West Virginia to North Carolina, affecting about 100 jobs.

Those workers will have an opportunity to move to the Greensboro, N.C., area or receive severance packages.

Company spokeswoman Julie Berman says workers who lose their jobs will be given assistance in finding other work.

The 187,000-square-foot building in Martinsburg serves as a distribution center for the Ralph Lauren Childrenswear product line.

Howard Smith, a senior vice president at the company, says the move will increase efficiency.

Company officials say the relocation will be complete by the end of 2010, when the lease on the Martinsburg building expires.
