State backs off Medicaid expansion plans

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Gov. Joe Manchin wants to hold off on a plan to expand Medicaid coverage for adults in West Virginia.
Earlier this year, Manchin instructed the state health department to prepare a policy that would allow adults earning up to 50 percent of the federal poverty level to get health coverage through Medicaid.
That's now on hold since the U.S. House of Representatives passed health care legislation over the weekend.
The House bill, which is now before the Senate, would expand Medicaid coverage even further and would increase the percentage of federal funding for the program.
Manchin says it would be premature to make major changes in West Virginia before Washington makes a final decision on health care legislation.
