LOGAN, W.Va. -- A man who sneaked out of a local nursing home late Monday night was found dead underneath a bridge in Logan County early Tuesday morning.

Charles David Milon, 56, of Logan County, went missing from the Logan Center around 10:30 Monday night, where he had been a resident for about a month, according to a statement from Logan Center Administrator Jimmy Justice.

Staff members immediately initiated a room-to-room search of the building and grounds for Milon and contacted the Logan Police Department for help, Justice wrote.

Emergency crews and volunteers searched all night for the man, whose body was finally discovered in the river underneath the Middleburg Island Bridge around 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Logan County 911 Center.

The Logan Center is part of Genesis Healthcare Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation.

I have a strong objection to the author of this article using the word "sneak" when describing the resident leaving the nursing home. This term implies forethought, planning, and an unsavory motivation.

Anyone with these capabilities would not be a resident in the nursing home environment. This individual was reported to have severe head injuries. This use of this word is insulting and places blame on an innocent individual.

Shame on you!
