American Red Cross will sponsor a blood drive from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Nitro Moose Lodge 656, 101 First Ave., Nitro. A drive is also scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at CAMC Teays Valley, 1400 Hospital Drive, Hurricane.
Beta Sigma Phi, Preceptor Alpha Chapter will meet at 7 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church on Kanawha Turnpike, Spring Hill. Vice President Charlotte Bowling will conduct the business meeting. Program by Ann Henderson. Service monthly is tabs for Ronald McDonald House, containers for Manna Meals and magazines for veterans' clinics. Bring items for the Little Victory no-kill shelter in Barboursville.

MountainHeart Child Care Services will conduct professional development sessions on Thursday at the Fayette County Department of Health and Human Resources, Oak Hill, for all family day-care providers, facility providers and day-care center staff. Other participants from the childcare community and potential childcare providers may also register as long as seating is available. Internet safety will be the topic for the professional development session held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and making the childcare environment family-friendly will be the topic from 2 to 4 p.m. There is no charge, but pre-registration is required. Southridge Church of God 100 Eagle Drive, South Charleston is hosting an AARP SafeDriver Class from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. This eight-hour classroom refresher course is designed for drivers age 50 and over; most insurance carriers give a discount to those who complete the course. Pre-registration is required. CAMC Health Education and Research Institute, Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute and the West Virginia Medical Foundation will present the Alzheimer's Basics for West Virginia Physicians program on Nov. 10 at the Kanawha Medical Society, Edgewood Country Club. The program is comprised of two hour-long continuing medical education courses for physicians, physician assistants and nurses. This program will enhance communication and coordination with Alzheimer's disease patients. It also helps identify risk factors, offer treatment plans and connect physicians to local references, education and support. Dinner will be held at 5:30 p.m. and the program is held from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $25 for non-members of Kanawha Medical Society.
Tri-County YMCA will offer an Aqua Burn class for people who will use a floatation belt to experience the benefits of aerobic exercise without impact. Participants should be comfortable in deep water. Classes are held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays now through Dec. 18 (no classes on Nov. 23-27). Cost is $15 for YMCA members and $35 for non-members. Developmental Swim is for students between the ages of 5-14 who are looking for a challenging workout. Students must pass a swim test in order to participate. Classes will be held from 4:15 to 4:45 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Nov. 2-Dec. 18 (no classes Nov. 23-27). The cost for this class is $60 for YMCA members and $84 for non-members.

Wild Waves Swim Team provides an atmosphere of ability progression that stresses the most up-to-date stroke technique, scientifically designed training for the advanced swimmers, continuous assessment, positive reinforcement, commitment and personal responsibility. Putnam County Schools will have Developmental Screenings for children ages 2 1/2 to 4 years of age on Friday at the Teays Valley Presbyterian Church, Teays Valley Road. Kanawha County Adult Reading Program will conduct a new-tutor training session from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at RESA III in Dunbar. West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services is seeking stories from individuals 60 years of age and older who have acted as a matchmaker or been matched through a third party. The matchmaking could have occurred anytime during their life. The bureau is attempting to collect and publish them in a single anthology titled "Matchmaker, Matchmaker: Stories of True Love in the Mountain State." Photos are encouraged.
