Advertiser

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- One man is dead after losing control of his motorcycle on Elk River Road in Clendenin early Wednesday evening.

The man apparently lost control of his bike shortly after 7 p.m. in front of the Herbert Hoover High School, according to a Metro 911 dispatcher.

The road was shut down for a few hours while police worked to clean up the wreckage. The motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

Officials were unclear if bad weather was a factor.

My condolences to the family. Without knowing the details of this incident I would just like to say that I have ridden cycles for many years and that WV roads are some of the most dangerous for bikers that I have encountered due to pot holes, cracked pavement or concrete, railroad crossings, falling limbs from overhanging trees, and water running across the road from poorly maintained ditch lines. I think our DOH could do a lot to prevent serious problems like these if they took a little time to consider hazards from a bikers perspective.
