Mountaineer Montessori: and the University of Charleston Department of Education presents Ellie Elzerman as guest speaker at 6 p.m. in the Appalachian Room of UC's Geary Student Union. Elzerman will present "Montessori Philosophy, Principles and Practices." She is the director of the Montessori Teacher Training Institute and of the Clemson Montessori School Inc. in South Carolina. All adults interested in learning more on this topic are welcome to attend.

The Boulevard Seventh-Day Adventist Church: will feature Herman Harp in concert at 7 p.m. at the church, 622 Kanawha Blvd. W. Harp is a soloist and plays the guitar, violin and harmonica. He sings with the award-winning gospel group, Ponder, Harp and Jennings.

Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority board of directors Future Projects Committee officers: will meet at 11 a.m. Friday in the training conference room at the KCEAA Central Office, 601 Brooks St. Officers are urged to be present. The board of directors will meet at noon Friday in the central office cafeteria. Agendas and review material will be provided. For questions, call 304-345-2312, ext. 130.

Pyles and Turner Foundation: is accepting grant applications through Friday. The foundation provides small grants to nonprofit organizations that have limited economic resources, focus on West Virginia, its citizens and/or its resources and seek to improve lives. For information, call Betty at the foundation's office at 304-752-6000.  

Wheeling Academy of Law and Science: will present a Continuing Legal Education seminar with required credits needed for a discount on ALPS Insurance on Friday. The material will cover ethics, office management and risk management. The cost is $75 for lawyers, which includes submitting for CLE credits, continental breakfast and lunch. Overbrook Elementary: will have its annual Oktoberfest 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the school on Oakwood Road in South Hills. The carnival-like event is the school's largest fundraiser. Proceeds will be used for various school projects. Events include a Jupiter Jump, inflatable obstacle course, caricature drawings, bingo, face painting/tattoos and many games. A silent auction also will be held. A city trolley will transport guests free of charge to and from George Washington High School and the Wesbanco parking lot on Oakwood Road. Admission is free.

Ronceverte Moose Lodge: is sponsoring a "Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin" fundraiser. The public is invited to stop by the Moose Lodge on Monroe Avenue and guess the correct weight. The weight will be revealed on at 8 p.m. on Halloween. The prize for guessing the correct weight will be a 50/50 of the tickets sold. Proceeds from this project will benefit the Moose Lodge and community projects.
