Project on Racism essay contest announced

The YWCA Wheeling and the Martin Luther King Jr. West Virginia Holiday Commission announce the opening of the 17th annual Project on Racism essay contest.

The contest gives student across West Virginia a thought-provoking theme and question based on the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., which they use to express their feelings and views. This year's quote is "The quality, not the longevity, of one's life is what is important." The essay question is: "What does the 'quality of life' Dr. King spoke of mean to you - how do you fulfill the Dream?"

The contest is open to all school-aged children in West Virginia, including public, private, parochial and home-schooled. Contest winners will be invited to attend the Martin Luther King Jr. Award Luncheon on Jan. 16, 2010, in Charleston. For online entry forms, visit www.ywcawheeling.org, www.wvmlkholidaycommission or www.wv.star.us.com. Forms may also be obtained from schools or from the YWCA, 1100 Chapline St., Wheeling. Essays may be e-mailed, faxed or posted, but must be received at the YWCA by Nov. 2. Call 304-232-0511 with questions.
