LEON, W.Va. -- A four-year-old Mason County boy is recovering after police said he was accidentally shot in the chest by his older brother at a home along Leon Baden Road in Leon Wednesday night.
According to the West Virginia State Police, the toddler's 14-year-old brother allegedly got a .25-caliber gun out of his mother's closet and was handling it when it accidentally went off. The bullet went through a wall and a television entertainment system before hitting the 4-year-old victim, who was playing video games, in the chest.
The 4-year-old was rushed to the Jackson General Hospital, then flow to Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital in Charleston for further treatment. He was listed in critical, but stable condition Thursday afternoon, according to State Police.
So far, no charges have been filed against the 14-year-old. State Police say the evidence in the case will be sent to the Mason County Prosecutor for review.
