BRIDGE DAY: New River Gorge Bridge. Parking will be along U.S. 19 before the bridge, on side streets in Fayetteville or on the New River Gorge Visitors Center parking lot. Shuttle runs from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Pay $2 per person to board a van or bus and ride to a spot near the bridge. Dogs and bikes aren't allowed on the bridge. Bike check locations will be at both ends of the bridge. Food, arts and crafts. Wear appropriate attire for cold/rainy weather.
KANAWHA TRAIL CLUB HIKE: 8 a.m. to New River Gorge during Bridge Day. Carpool from Ohio and Randolph streets. Regroup at the Lighthouse Center Church, off U.S. 19 on Smale's Branch Road. Hike is about 10 miles to the bottom of the Gorge on moderate grade on a hard road. Beautiful scenery and view jumpers landing near the water. Return to shuttle. A shorter version is available.

36TH ANNUAL GEM, MINERAL, FOSSIL AND JEWELRY SHOW: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., South Charleston Community Center. Admission is $3.50 per person. Children under 12 are admitted free with a paying adult. Parking is free. A mini-mine and crafts for kids, gem trees, cabochon demo, scrimshaw, wire wrapping and educational videos will be featured. Grand door prize is a $1,000 gift certificate from Broyles Jewelers. Presented by Kanawha County Rock and Gem Club and South Charleston Lions Club.

FAYETTEVILLE AREA CHURCHES BRIDGE DAY WEEKEND EVENTS: Area churches will reach out to the community with a picnic, concert and 2,500 free cookies. Gospel Odyssey, a group of college students from churches in the Great Lakes area, will join forces with local youth. Children's games and free cookies will be available at the bridge. A puppet show will be held at the afternoon chili cook-off at the Courthouse Square.
