The Henry Highland Garnett Foundation's James "Step" Preston Annual Gospel Songfest scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, Lewis and Shrewsbury streets, has been canceled.

Kanawha County Parks and Recreation's Finance/Golf Committee will meet at noon Thursday in the Oak Room, Coonskin Clubhouse, Coonskin Park.

West Virginia State University will feature the film "Nell," starring Jodie Foster, at 7 p.m. Thursday in the WVSU Student Union, as part of its celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month activities.

Hansford Senior Citizens Center will host a Mary Kay party from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday as part of its Alzheimer's awareness fundraisers. Also, a Creative Memories Scrapbook Party will be held on Saturday. Donations will be accepted at the door. Union Mission will feature its Food Fight kickoff event on World Food Day, which is Friday. The friendly competition pits teams in one of four categories against each other to see who can collect the most canned goods. The competition concludes on Nov. 7. West Virginia State University will host a graduate-school fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday in the James C. Wilson University Union on the WVSU campus. Representatives from Marshall, Fairmont State, Mountain State, Ohio, WVSU (media studies) and Wheeling Jesuit universities will speak with students. The fair is open to the public.
