West Virginia State Firemen's Association will have a West Virginia Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Fallen Firefighter Memorial Statue at the state Capitol Complex. Honored are: Firefighter Charles E. Kessel, Maysville Volunteer Fire Department; Firefighter Robert L. McAtee, Huttonsville-Mill Creek VFD; Lt. Johnnie Hammons, Craigsville-Beaver-Cottle VFD; and Firefighter Timothy Nicholas, Craigsville-Beaver-Cottle VFD.
Order of the Eastern Star, Charleston Chapter No. 88 will meet at 7:30 pm. Monday at the Scottish Rite Temple, 406 Capitol St. The program will be the Grand Chapter Report.
Kanawha County Democratic Executive Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the courtroom of Judge Charlie King, fourth floor, Judicial Annex. The following people have been invited as guest speakers: state Supreme Court Justice Thomas McHugh; House of Delegates Speaker Richard Thompson; state Delegate Mark Hunt; and Kanawha County Commission candidate Andrew Richardson.
The Woman's Club of South Charleston will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at their Clubhouse, 214 D St., South Charleston. Cookie Miller, counselor at South Charleston High School, will present the program and introduce several foreign exchange students attending the high school. Beta Sigma Psi sorority, Laureate Alpha Psi chapter will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Martha Setterstrom, 5219 Nesting Way, Cross Lanes. Setterstrom will present a program on Pathways to Cooking. Guest speaker Lora Hayes will present a program on vitamins for a healthier woman.
Regional Intergovernmental Council with their consultant, Kimley-Horn and Associates, will hold a public information open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the South Charleston Public Library, 314 Fourth Ave. Residents are invited to learn about the region's long-range transportation plan and provide feedback on transportation issues and improvements. Light refreshments will be served.
WV Grand Lodge and Rebekah Assembly, Independent Order of Odd Fellows will have its annual sessions Oct. 14-17 at the Days Hotel, Flatwoods. Registration is $5 per member and the banquet is $30. Mobile office of U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall will stop from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Greenbrier County Courthouse, Lewisburg. Representatives will be on hand to answer questions. The office will also stop Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m., Sabine Post Office, Main Street; 11 a.m. to noon, Glenfork Post Office; and 1:30 to 3 p.m., Jesse Post Office, Wyoming County Route 1.
