The West Virginia Pulmonary Hypertension Support Group will have a "meet and greet" event Thursday at Bible Center Church, Southridge Campus. Putnam County Schools will have developmental screenings on Friday at Teays Valley Presbyterian Church, Teays Valley Road. Children ages 2 1/2 to 4 will be screened for speech/language, hearing, vision, motor skills, social skills, self-help and cognition. Call 304-586-0500, ext. 154 to schedule an appointment.
Charleston Chapter 1066, National Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet at 10 a.m. Friday at the South Charleston Public Library. Boone Memorial Hospital will sponsor its 2009 Health Fair from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the hospital. Blood work and flu shots will be available. More than 50 vendors will participate. A live cooking show and prizes will be featured. The cost is: Comprehensive Metabolic Panel with Lipid II, $15; PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen Test), $15; TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone Test), $10; Hgb A1C, $10; and flu shots, $15. A 12-14-hour fasting is required for Lipid test.
Unity of Kanawha Valley will host Ron Sowell's Open Stage and Coffee House at 7:30 p.m. Friday at 3102 Blaine Blvd. A surprise guest host will be featured. Performers sign up at 7 p.m. All local musicians are welcome to come and share their talents. General admission is $5 per person and $2 for performers, seniors and children. Various coffees, teas, soft drinks and homemade treats are available at a small cost.
Lewisburg Business and Professional Women's Club will have its 29th annual Arts and Crafts Fair from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the West Virginia State Fair Event Center. There is no charge for admission or parking. Drawings and food will be featured. Proceeds will help support the club's scholarship program.

The Children's Home Society of West Virginia will have its third annual "Walk for Children" Friday through Sunday. The walk begins Friday at the Nicholas County Courthouse and will lead to the State Capitol building in Charleston. Friday's walk begins in Summersville and ends in Belva. On Saturday, walkers leave Belva and go over Mount Olive Mountain, down to Smithers and Cedar Grove Go-Mart. The Kanawha Valley Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will meet for a covered-dish luncheon at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Gardner/Moore Farm in Kenna. Dan Cutler of Milton and a member of the WV Humanities Council History Alive! program will portray the Shawnee leader Cornstalk. Hostesses are April Gardner, Carolyn Monk and Patty Young.
Kanawha County Public Library system's annual used book sale has been extended to two days. The event will be held in conjunction with the West Virginia Book Festival held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Charleston Civic Center's South Hall. Admission is free. Thousands of books and other library materials will be available, all arranged by category. Prices range from 50 cents to $3 for most items, however there will be a Collector's Corner featuring rare and collectible books priced individually.
