Joe Kemper of Newberne, Gilmer County, gets a little help on Goff Mountain Road from passing motorist Mike Booth of St. Albans. Kemper and other Model T and Model A owners from West Virginia and Ohio were passing through the area on Wednesday and paid a visit to the state Capitol. But, as Kemper said, Goff Mountain in Cross Lanes is "a seven-gallon hill," and he had only five gallons in his gravity-fed gas tank, which left his 1915 Ford on the side of the road.
