St. Agnes School will hold a public auction at 7 p.m. Friday in the school gym, 4801 Staunton Ave., Kanawha City. Proceeds will benefit the school. New merchandise from a popular home shopping channel, including electronics, appliances, designer handbags, fashion, cookware, automotive, home decor, collectibles and more, will be featured. Bidder registration and "try before you buy" preview starts at 6 p.m. Children are welcome and concessions are available. Auctioneer is Carl Crowder, WVSL #1243. The WV Chapter of the Autism Society of America will host their annual State Autism Conference Friday and Saturday at Pullman Plaza Hotel in Huntington. Pre-conference workshops will also be offered from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today (Thursday). The theme is "Climbing Mountains to Inclusion." A vendor area with refreshments will be available and autism awareness items can be purchased.  Onsite registration is available. The Boy Scouts of America will have an Eagle Scout Project Shed Tear-down from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for the Gabriel Project, located at 1527 Fourth Ave. The Gabriel Project benefits pregnant women and new mothers in the Charleston area, and is in desperate need of a new shed. Volunteers are needed. Bring gloves, hard hats or helmets, safety glasses and hammers, and wear appropriate clothing. Donuts and water will be offered in the morning and hot dogs will be provided in the afternoon. The back-yard shed is at the house located across from the KRT terminal, before the stoplight on Patrick Street, leading to Kmart. For information, contact Brendan Gallagher at 304-776-5852.

Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department and Wendy's of Cross Lanes will hold a fundraiser on Saturday at Wendy's. A portion of the proceeds from people who dine at Wendy's in Cross Lanes on that day will be help purchase equipment for the fire department.

Lincoln County Genealogical Society will have a genealogy class Saturday at the Hamlin Public Library. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in the basement of the library and is handicap accessible. Class begins at 10 a.m. and a lunch break will be held at noon (on your own). At 1 p.m., members of the society will begin assisting each person in searching in books and electronic databases for their ancestors. Tahoe Farm Club will have their annual Down on the Farm Days from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the West Virginia State Fairgrounds. Music will feature Mud Hole Control from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday and Half Bad Bluegrass Band from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Melodies of Praise and the Eads Mountain Boys will provide gospel music on Sunday. Horse-drawn buggy rides, demonstrations, displays, antique cards, baked goods, games and more will be held. Kanawha Trail Club will sponsor a hike at 1:30 p.m. at Coonskin Park. Carpool from Ohio and Randolph streets. Regroup at the swimming pool parking lot. Hike is approximately 3-4 miles along the River Trail onto the Nature Trail and adjacent areas. A shorter version, approximately 1-2 miles, will be available and has a flat surface. Leader is Kathy Hastings.
