CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Rod Snyder, former president of West Virginia Young Democrats, was elected executive vice president of Young Democrats of America at its national convention in Chicago last weekend, attended by more than 1,000 delegates from 42 states and territories.

Snyder, who lives in Shenandoah Junction, currently works for the Washington, D.C.-based National Corn Growers Association. He was president of West Virginia Young Democrats between 2007 and 2009.

Campaigning for his position, Snyder focused on organizing the youth vote in rural areas and the interplay between faith and politics in a new generation of Christian progressives. Earlier this year, he fought Liberty University's decision to ban the Young Democrats chapter from its campus. In 2006, he released a full-length album called "Leaving Hollywood Behind."

Snyder's father is state Sen. Herb Snyder, D-Jefferson.
