BRANCHLAND, W.Va. -- Police in Lincoln County are trying to find out who threw an object that hit a county sheriff's deputy who had stopped on the side of a road Tuesday, a 911 dispatcher said.
The deputy had pulled over on W.Va. 10 in Branchland and gotten out of his vehicle to check the tires, said 911 dispatcher Alan Siders.
About 8:40 p.m., something was thrown out of a passing vehicle that hit the deputy in the head.
"We don't know what it was that they threw out, but it was enough to make him a little bit dizzy," Siders said.
The deputy didn't need hospital treatment, but was hurt badly enough he had to go home from his shift, Siders said. The incident is under investigation.
