PRINCETON, W.Va. -- A flash flood warning is in effect for Mercer County because of heavy rain from a thunderstorm.

High water covered roads early this morning in downtown Princeton but receded by midmorning. Princeton firefighter Matthew Mould says the flash flood forced traffic to be temporarily rerouted but caused no major problems for businesses.

The National Weather Service says up to 2 inches of rain was possible today.

The flood warning was in effect until 1:30 p.m. today. Communities in the warning area include Spanishburg, Princeton, Matoaka, Kegley, Athens and Camp Creek.
