CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A federal grand jury indicted a South Charleston man Wednesday on charges that he received and possessed child pornography, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced.
James Curtis Sorgman, 50, allegedly had multiple images of minors engaged in sexually explicit activity in July 2008, according to the indictment.
Prosecutors are also seeking to confiscate a computer, three hard drives, two thumb drives and multiple DVDs and CDs.
If convicted, Sorgman faces up to 30 years in prison and a lifetime on supervised release.
The grand jury also indicted Joe Adolfo Borjas-Hernandez, a.k.a. "Jose Hernandez Salazar" and "Carlos," 26, of Columbus, Ohio, on charges that he conspired to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin.
The drug-related activities of Borjas-Hernandez and others resulted in the death of Patrick Byars from a drug overdose, the indictment alleges. If convicted, Borjas-Hernandez faces up to life in prison.
In a separate case, the grand jury also charged Robert Laver "Snoop" Padgett, 31, of escaping from federal custody near Rand on June 11, 2009. If convicted, Padgett faces up to five years in prison.
In other federal court news, a Detroit man pleaded guilty to selling crack cocaine, according to a news release.
Henry Gray, 37, admitted that he sold drugs to a confidential informant in a motel room in Jefferson on April 20, the release states. When officers served a search warrant on Gray, he fled, tossing a bag containing 4.9 grams of crack cocaine during the pursuit, according to the release.
Gray faces up to 20 years in prison when sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin on Sept. 21.
On Tuesday, a Mingo County man was sentenced to two years in prison for selling cocaine.
Donald Wilkerson, 60, of Williamson, pleaded guilty to the federal drug charge in April, the news release states. U.S. District Judge John T. Copenhaver Jr. imposed the sentence.
