Three men indicted in Chelyan slaying
Advertiser

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Three men accused of killing a Chelyan man during a home invasion in January were among the 23 people indicted on felony charges by a Kanawha County grand jury this week.

Jason William Holstein, 28, of Belle; Larry Wayne Cantrell, 28, of Elkview; and Joshua Allen Taylor, 21, of Chelyan; all face murder, burglary and attempted robbery charges in the shooting death of David L. Scarbro on Jan. 19.

Scarbro's wife interrupted the fatal robbery, according to court documents filed after Holstein, Cantrell and Taylor were arrested.

An indictment is not a finding of guilt. It only means that the grand jury believes there is enough evidence of a crime to merit a jury trial.

Those charged by the grand jury will be arraigned in the Kanawha County Judicial Annex in downtown Charleston in front of the following judges at the following times:

Judge Jennifer Bailey, July 29 at 2:30 p.m.:

Jason William Holstein, 28, of Belle, murder, burglary and attempted robbery; Larry Wayne Cantrell, 28, of Elkview, murder, burglary and attempted robbery; Joshua Allen Taylor, 21, of Chelyan, murder, burglary and attempted robbery; Jason A. Day, 44, of Charleston, possession of a stolen vehicle, petit larceny and fraudulent use of an access device; Jose Alberto Miranda, 22, of Charleston, possession of a stolen vehicle; Curtis Laine Sydenstricker, 46, of Charleston, failure to register as a sex offender.

Judge Charles E. King Jr., July 9 at 9 a.m.:

Johnny Eugene Carter, 26, of Charleston, drug charges; Darius James Preston Jr., 19, of Charleston, drug charges.
