Charleston man faces animal cruelty charges
Advertiser

A Charleston man was indicted Tuesday on animal cruelty charges for allegedly starving one horse to death and almost starving another.

Clint Casto, 30, of 913 Amherst Drive, faces two counts of animal cruelty.

In 2008, a Clint Casto of 913 Amherst Drive ran unsuccessfully for the House of Delegates in Kanawha County's 32nd District, losing in May's primary.

The surviving horse, which was so emaciated that it could barely stand when humane officers rescued it, was taken to a farm in Tornado, Kanawha County Humane Officer Johnny Brotherton said.

If convicted, Casto faces up to 10 years in prison.

I like animals as well as the next guy,,but it seems to me the courts can`t put the rapist, killers, sexual abusers in jail because they don`t have room or the funds to feed them,I think the animal abusers should be hit hard where the pocketbook is,,,,raise the fines to about 10 times what they are now

I find it dispicable, immoral and heinous that a cruel hearted human being could be so irresponsible and starve ,neglect and abuse a regal, majestic animal such as an equine. This man should be penalized and imprizoned to the fullest extent of the law.Us americans need to make major criminal felony animal welfare statutes tougher on murderers of animals. These sociopathic pyschopaths start first killing innocent animals then they move up to killing people.

Until moral people take it upon themselves to report horse neglect/abuse, the unthinkable will continue. Clint Casto must have time to ponder the suffering he is responsible for (one horse dead and one close to death). To give this man a slap on the hand, would be wrong. Money - a fine - would teach nothing. This would not be setting an example for the next abuser. Do not be a by stander to the horrors of horse neglect and abuse. Make your voice heard. For those who know horses, you understand the scope of this crime. Dying of thirst and starvation puts one in mind of a "Nazi mind-set".
