Mineral County to test students' drug use
Advertiser

KEYSE, W.Va. -- Students who drive to school or participate in extracurricular activities in Mineral County will soon be subject to random drug testing.

The county school board is contracting with Powell, Ohio-based Sport Safe Testing Services to perform random testing.

Each school will pay the $27 per test cost. But if a student tests positive, parents will have to pay for follow-up screenings.

A student who tests positive will also be required to attend counseling and will not be able to participate in extracurricular activities for 14 days or drive to school for 90 school days.

Superintendent Skip Hackworth says the board plans to make a video and presentation explaining the policy to students and parents.

Like I have said before-if its against the constitutional rights for teachers to get drug tested, then why and how can they do this to students? They really do need a great lawyer.

This is an outrage. These students are entitled to the same 4th Amendment rights as every other Soviet citizen...oops...American citizen! If they are going to test students who drive to school, then why not test every WV driver. I hope these students find them a good civil rights lawyer and takes Mineral County to task. I'm just sorry I can't help them.

It's a good start to getting our schools cleaned up and back in the business of educating students, rather than providing a place to score drug deals.
