PARKERSBURG -- A riverfront park designed for a variety of recreational pursuits is the intended outcome of a $2.8 million contract awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The Corps announced the award Wednesday, after agreeing to a conceptual plan developed along with officials in Parkersburg and Wood County.

The plan calls for a waterfront park in the city that would include a riverboat landing to accommodate cruise boats ferry boats and other watercraft along with tiered seating and other improvements.

The work is expected to begin this summer and take about two years to complete.
