NITRO, W.Va. -- Nitro city officials agreed Monday night to send City Engineer Ashok Senghavi to view the site said to have caused mudslides on Hillside Drive during the severe floods in May.
Council members met with concerned citizens and with landowner Lyle Sattes and Tom White of D.W. Energy, the company responsible for work done on Sattes' property, regarding water and mud damage.
Senghavi will tour the site with White to see if any measures can be taken to prevent such problems in the future.
On the agenda at Monday's meeting, council members approved discussion of a municipal license tax that would cover a wide base of services offered in the city, from alcohol sales to county fairs and festivals.
This measure would reportedly update a system of state taxes that were repealed in 1970 and would apply equally to all businesses seeking license to operate in the city. If this measure passes, the tax would not exceed the amounts collected by the state.
