CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The body of a boy who drowned in the Kanawha River on Friday afternoon was found late Monday afternoon.

Cody Priestley, a student at Hurricane Middle School, reportedly went swimming in the Kanawha River behind Rumer Subdivision between Buffalo and Eleanor on Friday afternoon. Bystanders reported seeing the 14-year-old go under water, but not come up.

Rescue crews were called to the scene about 5:30 p.m. Friday to begin searching for him. Crews began dragging the river Friday night.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Monday, the boy's body was found near where he was last seen, according to a Putnam County emergency dispatcher.
