River searched in Putnam for body of teen swimmer
Advertiser
ELEANOR, W.Va. -- The Eleanor Fire Department worked to recover the body of a 14-year-old boy who disappeared in the Kanawha River shortly after 5 p.m. on Friday.
The boy had apparently been swimming in the river behind Rumor Subdivision between Buffalo and Eleanor. Bystanders on the riverbank saw the boy go under water but did not see him come up, said a Putnam County 911 dispatcher.
Rescue crews were called to the riverbank at about 5:30 p.m. to search for the boy. By 7:30 p.m., a call went out for hooks to be brought so emergency workers could drag the river to recover the body.
