Sheriff's deputies discovered half a dozen blasting caps while conducting a drug bust in Jefferson.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Sheriff's deputies discovered half a dozen blasting caps while conducting a drug bust in Jefferson on Thursday.
According to a criminal complaint on file in Kanawha Magistrate Court, Lt. Jess Bailes of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department went to Smiley's Motel on U.S. 60 in Jefferson about 3:30 p.m. to investigate a tip about someone selling drugs from the motel. After knocking on the door at Room 253, Bailes reported smelling methamphetamine.
David Allen Fleck, 43, who said he lived in the room, answered the door, the criminal complaint says. There was also a woman inside.
According to the complaint, the couple gave Bailes permission to search the room. Inside, he allegedly found a large vial of white powder and a smaller vial in the woman's purse. Bailes also allegedly found scales, plastic bags, a knife and cash.
According to the criminal complaint, Fleck later admitted to selling drugs from the room. He allegedly told Bailes he hid the powder in the woman's purse, and that she knew nothing about the small vial.
Deputies believe the vials contained methamphetamine. Bailes also found six blasting caps, the complaint said.
Fleck was charged with three felony counts and one misdemeanor count of delivery of a controlled substance. He was also charged with illegal possession of explosives, another felony.
Fleck was in the South Central Regional Jail on Thursday night in lieu of a $50,000 or 10 percent cash bond.
