FUTURE EVENTS

The Charleston Branch NAACP: will meet Thursday at the Columbia Gas Building on MacCorkle Avenue. The executive committee will meet at 5:30 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. All persons supporting the cause of freedom are invited to attend.

The Putnam County Parks and Recreation Commission: will sponsor a "Kick'in In The Country Concert" from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the large shelter at Valley Park wave pool. New River Band and "Rowdie" Ronnie Robinson will be featured. Bring lawn chairs. Hot dogs, drinks and popcorn will be sold at the concession area. Proceeds will go toward the Putnam Animal Relief Center Building Fund. Tri-State Amateur Radio Association: will offer new or upgraded Amateur Radio "Ham" License examinations at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Museum of Radio and Technology, 1640 Florence Ave., Huntington. All examination elements will be offered for all Amateur Radio License classes. A fee of $15 will be charged per test. Pre-registration is not required, however all required documentation is required. Call Gary Ritchie, leader of the TARA Volunteer Examination team, at 304-733-1300 for more information.

Kanawha City Community Association: will sponsor the Kanawha City Village Fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the old Watt Powell Park. Admission is free, however, donations of non-perishable goods will be accepted by the Union Mission. The fair includes a pie baking contest, bike decorating contest for children through fifth grade, "Taste of Kanawha City" food booths, local business booths, crafters, face painting and clowns, Jupiter Jump and Bungee Run, health screenings by the Kanawha Valley Emergency Ambulance Authority, celebration of Flag Day with color guard and more. Southern Appalachian Labor School: will have its 18th annual Workers' Solidarity Cultural Festival at noon Saturday at the SALS Community Center in Beards Fork Road, Beards Fork, Fayette County. The event also will commemorate Flag Day and Juneteenth, the traditional celebration of the Emancipation Proclamation. Live music, games, displays, crafts and more will be featured.

South Charleston Community Center: will host a senior dance (age 50 and older) from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the South Charleston Community Center. The theme is "Peace, Love & Harmony." Wear '60s style clothing for the '60s style dance. Music will be provided by DJ Chuck Swigger. Glenda Webb will teach a new dance. Donations will be taken at the door. Concessions, door prizes and a 50/50 drawing will be featured. Call 304-744-4731 for more information.
