Coal now W.Va.'s official rock
Advertiser
GILBERT, W.Va. -- Bituminous coal is now West Virginia's official state rock.
Gov. Joe Manchin has signed a House of Delegates resolution making the designation based primarily on coal's contribution to the state's economy and history. West Virginia is the nation's No. 2 coal producer behind Wyoming and a key source of energy to the South and East.
The resolution notes explorer John Peter Salley found coal near Racine in 1742 and named the Coal River as a result. George Washington observed a Mason County coal fire in 1770, and Conrad Cotts opened the state's first commercial coal mine near Wheeling in 1810, according to the resolution.

By officially declaring coal a rock instead of a mineral, DINO (Democrat in Name Only) Joe and his Mingo County minions may have accidentally nullified the mineral rights for their all absentee coal baron pals
It's too bad that real life doesn't work that way, because it'd be sweet blowback for the years our coal-powered WV lawmakers have underfunded education here
BTW it's no coincidence that the coal-rich Mingo school district is the only county taken over by the WV Dept. of Education more than once
Congratulations to help of Sen. Truman Chafin (D-Mingo) and Del. Harry Keith White (D-Mingo) for showing the rest of he world your county's unmitigated ignorance, and for helping Gov. Manchin to show those who voted for him that he's every bit as dirty as the coal industry for which he pimps
