20th century images: Carry the Mail 1957

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Since the dawn of the computer, some folks refer to the postal service as "snail mail" and I won't argue that, but here is a photo of a mailman on a mule -- surprisingly in 1957.
Charles Arnold of Elkview sent me this photo and here are his words:
"Benny Boggs -- mail man taken -- O'Brion -- Clay County WV.
"Mail route started at Walker -- then Hallsburg -- O'Brion -- Duck and return Walker. Total 22 miles round trip -- 6 days a week. Started before daylight ending after dark in all weather -- snow sometimes over the mules knees!"
