Anniversaries

  • St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church of St. Albans will celebrate the eighth anniversary of the Rev. Dr. Michael A. Poke Sr. and first lady Mary Poke on June 6 and 7. On June 7, guest speaker for the 11 a.m. service will be the Rev. Robert Davis of Mount Zion Baptist Church, South Charleston. Speaker for the 3 p.m. service will be the Rev. Lenorris Dixon of Shiloh Baptist Church. First lady Poke's celebration will be at 6 p.m. on June 6. Evangelist Janet Hairston of Beckley will be the guest speaker.

  • Precept Ministries International will conduct training workshops for students and leaders in the Charleston area. The workshops will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 pm.   • Bethel Chapel, Woodward Drive, will have a family night at 7 p.m. Tuesday featuring the free movie "Fireproof."
  • Southridge Church, 100 Eagle Drive, South Charleston, is celebrating our local champions at 10 a.m. on Sunday with a "Celebration of Champions." The church is encouraging local teams (basketball, baseball, softball, dance, swim, gymnastics, etc.) to come and bring your whole team to be recognized during the morning service. Southridge encourages all players and coaches to wear your team's uniform. Free food will follow the service. Southridge Church is located just 2.5 miles past the Wal-Mart at Southridge on W.Va. 119. Turn left on Eagle Drive. The church sits at the top of the hill on the right. The team with the most people in attendance will win tickets for their whole team to a West Virginia Power Game.   • St. Patrick Church will sponsor a Health Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. June 13 at the church, 207 Jefferson St., Bancroft. Free screenings include blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, bone density, skin cancer checks, drug awareness and demonstrations from the Putnam County drug dog and more. Doctors, nurses, health department, EMS department and sheriff's department representatives will be available for questions.
  • The Men's Day Committee of St. Paul AME Church, 1108 Second Ave., will sponsor a car wash and food sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 30 on the church parking lot. Hot dogs, hot bologna, fish and baked goods will be for sale.

  • Bride of Christ Baptist Church, 133 Brook Road off Chestnut Street, South Charleston, will have its monthly dinner and singing service Sunday at the church, featuring gospel soloist Jim Edens.   • Jesus and Me Production and Pleasant View United Methodist Church, Fisher Ridge, Kenna, will have a gospel sing to honor God and our troops at 7 p.m. today at the church. Singers will be Spirit Led Trio from Parkersburg and the Tignor Family from Sissonville. Those in the military are invited as special guests.
  • The Family Worship Center, 11819 MacCorkle Ave., Chesapeake, will have a benefit gospel sing for its Building Fund at 6:30 p.m. today at the church. The Jay Humphreys Trio will perform. For more information, call 304-541-3634.

  • Courtney Perry and 96.1 Sunday Gospel Sunrise Host Randy Gifford will have a song, praise and worship service at 7 p.m. today at East Bank United Methodist Church. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m.
  • Fisher Memorial Church will have a gospel sing at 7 p.m. today. The BrighterSide Quartet, Jordan River Boys, Heritage, Freeman Newhouse and the choir will sing. The church is located 1/2 mile on Dudden Road off the Goldtown exit of Interstate 77. Call 304-988-3534 for information.
  • Charlton Jordan will be in concert at 10:30 a.m. during the morning worship service Sunday at Dunbar First Church of God, 1234 Payne Ave., Dunbar. A special Memorial Day observance will be held.
  • Community Front Porch Gospel Sing will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Elk River Nazarene Church, 143 Dutch Road. Supper will be held at 5:45 p.m. Featured singers will be The Lordsmen, Elk River Nazarene Church's adult choir and local talent. Barbecue, slaw, corn on the cob, baked beans, chips, cookies and drink is $4 per person. The National Guard's Rock Climb Wall for Teens, Jupiter Jump for kids and door prizes will be featured.   • The Homeland Southern Gospel Sing will be held at 7 p.m. on June 12 at Scary Creek Church of God, 340 Scary Road, Scott Depot.
