American Red Cross will sponsor a blood drive from 2 to 7 p.m. at Teays Valley Christian School, 4373 Teays Valley Road, Scott Depot. The Charleston Donor Center is also open for donations from noon to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at its location, 4501 MacCorkle Avenue S.E. Eligible donors are those people at least 17 years of age, weigh 110 pound or more and be in good health the day of the blood drive. South Charleston Public Library will feature two programs by award-winning author/illustrator Denise Fleming at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. May 28 at the library, 312 Fourth Ave. Fleming is author of more than a dozen children's books, including "The Cow Who Clucked" (2006), "Beetle Bop (2007)," and "Buster Goes to Cowboy Camp (2008). She will give demonstrations and discuss her papermaking/illustrating techniques. Space is limited. Call 304-744-6561 to register.
West Virginia State University Foundation will have its 32nd Annual Dinner at 7 p.m. Thursday at Embassy Suites on Court St. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the WVSU Foundation. Funds generated through the WSVSU Foundation Annual Dinner will benefit current and future WVSU students by funding scholarship, establishing new professorial chairs, and supporting improvements to the academic and cultural programs and facilities of the University. The West Virginia Division of Culture and History's Archives and History Library will be closed to the public June 8-19 while the main library research room is being renovated. Staff will be available to the public by telephone and e-mail. The library will resume normal operating hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) on June 20.
