POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. --  A Mason County high school administrator resigned this week after being charged with sexually abusing a child in the 1980s.

Wahama High School Principal David Gregory Graham, 59, of Pomeroy, Ohio, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree sexual assault, sexual assault by a parent or guardian and incest in the alleged abuse of a 9-year-old boy in June 1986.

According to a criminal complaint on file in Mason County Magistrate Court, Graham allegedly abused his wife's son between June 8-14, 1986. According to the complaint, Graham admitted to the abuse and went to counseling with his family following the incident.

Graham has resigned from his principal's post. Mason County school officials are expected to discuss the resignation at a school board meeting Thursday.

Graham was free Wednesday on a $100,000 bond.

I must say that I am shocked. I graduated from Wahama and he was my Social Studies teacher. I never would have imagined this.

The reasoning given in the local (Mason Co) paper for the delay is that the stepson believed that action had been taken in 1986 when first reported. It is only now that he learned that the only consequence was the family therapy that they received.

Certainly in the past few years, there has been a lot more publicity about inappropriate relationship between both male and female teachers and their students. In this particular case, apparently the principal admitted his guilt. But in many of these old allegations, one really does have to wonder about the veracity of some of those allegations, and question the motive as well.
