Anniversaries

  • First Missionary Baptist Church of Hansford will celebrate Pastor Henry Gravely's anniversary at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The Rev. Michael Smith, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, Cannelton, will be guest speaker. Area churches and choirs are invited to attend. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m.

  • A benefit yard/hot dog sale will begin at 8 a.m. today at Lighthouse Worship Center, Sissonville, off Call Road and W.Va. 21. Household items, furniture and new and used clothing for all ages will be featured.
  • Precept Ministries International will conduct training workshops for students and leaders in the Charleston area. The workshops will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, June 5 and 6 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 900 Lawndale Lane.   • Simpson Memorial United Methodist Church will be taking a bus trip to Main Street United Methodist Church in Ronceverte on Sunday. The bus will be leaving Simpson Memorial United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. and returning the same day at 8 p.m. The cost is $20 per person. Seats are still available.   • A pastoral anniversary fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Wednesday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Third Avenue. Home-cooked dinners will be sold from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Deliveries are available. Walk-ins are welcome.
  • The third annual Tailgating for Jesus is an annual community Christian music festival located on the R.H. Armstrong Football Field in Parsons. The event has been moved from its original date in August to May 23. The day is filled with games, fellowship, prizes and music. The point of this event is to come out and get excited about Jesus just as you would get excited for your favorite team. Bring chairs, blankets, footballs, Frisbees and grills. Entertainment will be provided by Adapt and Reactour. Headliner is nationally touring and Gotee Record's Our Heart's Hero. Also returning is Crashing Jericho, and Haley McGuire and Cassandra Manning will join the singing. The concert kicks off at 6 p.m. with a pre-show consisting of great West Virginia talent including Ten:Nine, One Exit Left and Made for More. Youth groups, families, adults and kids are encouraged to start their tailgating by cooking out or playing games. Ticket price will be $5 a person.   • Bride of Christ Baptist Church, 133 Brook Road off Chestnut Street, South Charleston, will have its monthly dinner and singing service May 24 at the church, featuring gospel soloist Jim Edens.   •   The Believers Quartet will perform at a gospel sing at 6 p.m. today at Elk Community Center in Elkview.
  • The Jay Humphreys Trio will be singing at 7 p.m. today at Cathedral of Prayer Red Cross Sing. They will also sing at 11 a.m. Sunday at Sam's Club in New Martinsville for an 11 a.m. service.
  • Paradise Island of Christian WV will have its 42nd Southern Gospel Sing at 6 p.m. today, followed by the Passion Trail, "Footsteps of Jesus," held at 10 p.m. A gospel sing will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday with a homecoming dinner scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Free camping (non-electric) is available today at Paradise Island of Christian WV, located on County Route 80, Logan County, between Man and Gilbert.   • Institute Church of Nazarene will have a musical program at 4 p.m. Sunday, featuring the Viz'-n-heirs. Speaker will be the Rev. Harold Gilmer.
  • Randy Gifford and The Sunday Gospel Sunrise 96.1 The Wolf will present The American Red Cross Benefit Gospel Sing at 7 p.m. today at Cathedral of Prayer gymnasium on the banks of the Elk River. Featured singers will be The Royalmen, Jay Humphrey's Trio, The Tignors, The Praisemen and Courtney Perry. Proceeds will go to the Charleston Chapter of the American Red Cross.
