CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A 25-year-old man is accused of smacking a 14-year-old boy on an East Bank school bus on Tuesday after he said the teen made an obscene gesture.
Joshua Shawn Beaver, of Pratt, is charged with malicious or unlawful assault, a felony.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court, Beaver followed the school bus from Crown Hill to East Bank Middle School. After the bus stopped at the school, Beaver allegedly entered the bus and told the driver that two students "had flipped him off," according to the complaint.
He then forced his way back to two boys and smacked one in the back of the head, according to the complaint.
Kanawha County Schools Transportation Director George Beckett said the incident happened around 8:15 a.m. in the school parking lot. On their way to school, several students on the bus had allegedly flashed the middle finger at a passing driver, he said.
Beckett said he didn't know exactly how Beaver got onto the bus or what words he exchanged with the driver before he reached the students. State Police are investigating, and county school officials plan to examine surveillance video from the bus, he said.

Arm the kids--WELL!
But let's stop and think about the bullying a punk whose name is Beaver had to put up with in school. I'm willing to bet that he never attended any public school past maybe 14 or 15 yrs old. This poor BEAVER was flipped off by kids about that age on a bus... FLASHBACK!
Regarding arming bus drivers, I'd suggest a less lethal method like closing the door or MAYBE peppergas. Let's try NOT handing MACE out to the kiddies, though
I do find it interesting that your private school poster boy and perhaps the worst bully in decades (George Bush) had his FAA disarm passenger airline pilots just 2 months prior to 911 yet never considered reinforcing cockpit doors despite dire warnings
The 911 hijackers only used boxcutters, so keeping cockpit doors closed, or pepperspray (or both) likely would have saved a LOT of lives.
I had a similar idea for airplanes:Sell off the metal detectors to Sweden or France, and then at the checkin counter EVERYONE gets a boarding pass AND A HANDGUN(if you haven't got your own,you can rent a gun along with your headphones and portable DVD player for movies and perhaps a little tiny dose of Valium to steady your hands). While everyone is milling around swearing about the flight delay, you should be able to go out onto the tarmac and practice shooting with special frangible bullets that wouldn't pierce the fuselage.
First person to stand up looking threatening gets quickly surrounded by the other 199 passengers...or worse.
Voila, a MOST exceptionally well behaved group of passengers on the flight.
What happens on the flight, stays on the flight !
But don't forget to turn your gun in at the next airport !
Darned if those proponents of the freemarket never forget their profit all the while they make free society safer and more peaceful.
