BELLE, W.Va. -- A pedestrian was killed Saturday in Belle when he was struck by an SUV on Simmons Creek Road.

Michael Hancock of Belle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kanawha County sheriff's deputies arrested Denver Ford Casto, 26, of Belle in connection with the death.

Hancock was struck and killed by Casto around 12:30 a.m. while walking in the middle of the road, according to documents from Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

Speed appears to be a factor in the accident, the documents say.

Casto has been charged with felony accident involving death and could face three to five years in jail.

Casto was being held Saturday in the South Central Regional Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail. His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 4.

I would just like to say that this man was not in the middle of the road but on the edge of the road. He wouldn't have stayed in the middle of the road if he saw headlights. It doesnt make any sense

"walking in the middle of the road
" What ever happened to walking on the left facing traffic? That's what I was taught in elementary school.
