Anniversaries

  • Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 126 Charles St., Logan, will be celebrating the Rev. James H. Mosley Jr.'s 17th pastor anniversary on Sunday. Guest speaker at the 11 a.m. morning service will be the Rev. West Womack, associate pastor of Potter's House, Dallas, Texas. Guest speaker at the 3 p.m. service will be the Rev. Willie Lewis, pastor of Greater Mount. Zion Baptist Church, Holden.
  • The Martin Luther King Jr. Male Chorus will celebrate its choir's 13th anniversary at 4 p.m. Sunday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1530 Third Ave.

  • The Clendenin First Baptist Church is sponsoring their "Lighthouse Players" dinner theater today in the activities building adjacent to the church, located at Jarrett Street and Virginia Avenue, Clendenin. The name of the play is "Mayhem in Mayville." The dinner will be served at 5 p.m. and the play starts at 6 p.m. For reservations, call Dottie Gandee at 304-548-5583, leaving your name, phone number and number in your party.  Admission is free; however, donations will be accepted. A nursery will be provided.
  • Canaan United Methodist Church, 401 Roane St. will be hosting a family movie night featuring "Nim's Island" at 6 p.m. today. Refreshments will be provided.  Use the Maryland Avenue entrance. For information, call 304-342-6553.
  • The Root and the Branch will sponsor "An Evening of Jewish, Christian and Islamic Dialogue" at 7 p.m. Monday in the Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation's cafeteria. The special guest will be Dr. Imam Ehteshamul Hague of the Islamic Association of West Virginia. Regular panelists will include Rabbi Victor Urecki of B'nai Jacob Synagogue, Monsignor P. Edward Sadie of Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral and the Rev. Dr. Dennis Johnson of the Baptist Temple. Moderator is Hazel Crowley. The subject for discussion is "Change: Is It Healthy for My Religion or a Recipe for Disaster?" There is no admission charge. Refreshments will be served.  
  • Ron Sowell and Sky Kershner at Unity of Kanawha Valley in Charleston will host Open Stage 4 Kids from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Unity of Kanawha Valley, 3102 Blaine Blvd. This event is for kid performers ages 5-15. Bring whatever talent you would like to share: playing an instrument, singing, dancing, telling a joke, showing a piece of art, magic or just talking into a microphone. Silly songs are welcome.   •    The Covenant Community Garden at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, 805 Price St., will be dedicated with a "Dedication Celebration" at 5 p.m. Sunday at the church. The dedication service will be followed by a beans and cornbread supper. John Porter of West Virginia University Extension Service will present a program titled "Cultivating Communities" about the benefits of community gardening. The event is free.   • Dunbar United Methodist Church Women will have a rummage sale from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 2 at 1401 Myers Ave., Dunbar. Barbecues and hot dogs will also be sold. The youth will sell drinks and desserts.
  • Nitro United Baptist Church, 101 Main St., Nitro, will have a yard sale, hot dog and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 2.
  • A rummage and food sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 2 at Humphreys United Methodist Church, Sissonville. Clothing, toys, household items, books, hot dogs, salad, home-baked desserts, beverages and more will be featured. Call in orders at 304-988-1939.
  • Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University will be offered starting in mid-May by First United Methodist Church, 905 Glendale Ave., South Charleston. The 13-week biblically based small group study is designed to empower participants with practical skills and confidence required to achieve their financial goals and experience financial peace.   • Mount Salem United Methodist Church will have a flea market, hot dog and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 2 at the church, located 4 1/2 miles east of Hurricane, on the left across from the covered bridge. Eat in or carryout will be available. Hot dogs are 75 cents each or two for $1.25.
  • The Pastor's Aide Society of St. Paul AME Church, 1108 Second Ave., will sponsor a fish, hot dog and hot bologna sale beginning 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. For information or delivery, call the church at 304-343-3085.

  • The Reapers will be singing at 7 p.m. Sunday at The Meadowbrook Freewill Baptist Church, located on W.Va. 114 North.
  • The St. Timothy Lutheran Church Praise Band, Appointed, will perform from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Capitol Roasters for praise and worship music. An informal worship service will follow at 5:30 p.m.
  • Rhonda Pauley will sing at revival services at 7 p.m. today at Beech Grove Baptist Church, Yawkey. Jackie Clark will be speaker. Rhonda Pauley will be singing at 7 p.m. Sunday at Derrick's Creek Community Church. 
  • The Believers Quartet will be singing at 7 p.m. Thursday at Union Valley Gospel Tabernacle, located 1/4 mile on Walker Drive off Interstate-77, Tupper's Creek exit.
  • A benefit gospel concert for Kairos Prison Ministries will be held at 6 p.m. May 3 at Calvary Baptist Church, 3653 Teays Valley Road, Hurricane. Featured groups include Spiritual Gifts from Teays Valley, soloist Jimmy McKnight of Dunbar, Grace Trio from Hurricane, and Sincere Quartet of Huntington. A love offering will be taken with all proceeds benefiting Kairos Prison Ministries. Concessions will be on sale from 5 to 8:30 p.m.
  • The Servant Quartet from Wilkes County, N.C., will be in concert at 7 p.m. May 2 at Sycamore Baptist Church, located between U.S. 60 and W.Va. 34 on Sycamore Road in Hurricane. They will also sing at the 10 a.m. May 3 service at Open Door Bible Church, located at 6713 W.Va. 34.
  • A benefit sing will be held at 7 p.m. May 30 at Nitro United Baptist Church, 101 Main St., Nitro. The Laborers Quartet and Diana Pauley will provide music.
  • Red Oak Christian Community Church, Red Oak Drive, Nitro, will have a song and prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the church. Tim McCoy will sing.
  • Summer Southern Gospel Concert Series will feature six headline performances June through September at the American Mountain Theater in Elkins. AMT's gospel group, the Sexton Trio, will open the two-hour shows, which begin at 2 p.m. Performances will be presented in the new theater, now in its third season, in the historic Elkins Rail Yard. The inaugural concert will feature The Gold City Quartet on June 21. Other artists set to perform include The Dove Brothers Quartet on July 19th; Jeff and Sheri Easter on Aug. 2; The Freemans on Aug. 23; The Isaacs on Sept. 13; and Jason Crabb on Sept. 20.
