FUTURE EVENTS

Herbert Hoover High School will host an HSN Home Shopping Network Auction beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the school. Proceeds will benefit the school's Project Graduation. Items include household, personal, bath and body items and electronics. Concessions will be available.

American Red Cross will sponsor community blood drives from noon to 5 p.m. Monday at the Knights of Columbus, 1032 Virginia St. E.; and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside High School, Belle. The Charleston Donor Center at 4501 MacCorkle Ave. S.E. is also from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

Tri-County YMCA will offer evening swim lessons beginning Monday and continuing through May 29. Beginning preschool classes are offered from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. School-age beginning, intermediate and advanced classes will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Advanced preschool class is held from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost is $70 for members and $100 for non-members. 

Better Breathers Club, a support group for those with breathing-related illnesses and their family/friends, will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Thomas Memorial Hospital.  This month's presenter will be Carla Cline, director of pulmonary services at Saint Francis Hospital.  The topic will be "What is Sleep Apnea?" Pilot Club of St. Albans will meet for dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday at The Woman's Club of St. Albans. Election of officers will be held.

AARP Chapter 543 will meet at noon Tuesday at Baptist Temple, Quarrier and Broad streets. Heather Galloway of the Make-A-Wish Foundation will present the program. Members and guests are welcome. Bring a covered dish. Call Jerry Lewis at 304-346-5789 for information.

Putnam County Parks and Recreation will offer a dog manners class from 6 to 7 p.m. starting Tuesday through May 26 on the park lawn by the Hurricane Valley Community Center at Valley (Wave Pool) Park. Region III Workforce Investment Board will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the conference room at Goodwill Industries of Kanawha Valley, 209 Virginia St. W. The agenda is available at the WIB office.

Charleston WV Christian Women will have their "April in Paris Brunch" from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wellington of Scarlet Oaks, Poca. A plant auction fundraiser will be held. Wayne Bennett, retired Extension agent, will be on hand for a Q&A session. Bring plants for the auction. Debbie Mills of Christiansburg, Va. will speak. The cost of the brunch is $13 inclusive.
