Headphones covered train sound, sheriff says
PORTERS FALLS - Police say a Wetzel County man who was killed by a train apparently didn't hear the engineer's warnings because he was wearing headphones.
Wetzel County Sheriff James Hoskins says 18-year-old Andrew Haslan of Porter's Falls died Monday evening after he was struck while walking on the railroad tracks.
Hoskins says the engineer sounded audible warnings as the northbound CSX approached Haslan from behind. Hoskins says the engineer and crew couldn't stop the train in time to avoid hitting Haslan.

Jurors also returned special verdicts finding that four deaths resulted from the Hatfields' drug-trafficking scheme. That carries a life sentence.
The Hatfields headed a group that committed the break-ins, including a dozen in southern Illinois. Between 1998 and 2004, they stole more than $500,000 worth of drugs.
The Hatfields apparently took the stolen drugs to West Virginia and Virginia to be sold.
Police chase stolen car, man jailed after scuffle
One man got away but another was arrested Monday night after Charleston police chased down a stolen car.
Sgt. James Agee said Lt. Tim Kemper stopped two cars on Sixth Avenue near the IGA just before 11 p.m. when the driver of one of the cars sped off.
Kemper chased the 2007 Chrysler Sebring to Drew Street, where the driver got out and fled on foot, Agee said.
Agee said James W. Tyson, 41, of Charleston, was arrested after a brief scuffle with Kemper, but the driver got away.
Kemper discovered the car had been stolen. Tyson was charged with assault on a police officer, obstructing an officer and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Tyson was in the South Central Regional Jail on a $2,500 bond.
