Advertiser

CRAIGSVILLE, W.Va. -- Other fire departments are pitching in to help a Nicholas County volunteer department that lost two members while battling a fire.

Funeral services are scheduled Tuesday at the Summersville Armory for 49-year-old Lt. Johnnie Hammons and 26-year-old Timothy Nicholas, both of Craigsville. They were members of the Craigsville Beaver Cottle Volunteer Fire Department.

Both men were killed Thursday night while fighting a mobile home fire in the Cottle area.

Paul Blake, the brother of Fire Chief Tim Blake, says the department is on stand down. Fire departments from Richwood, Cowen, Coal River, Sophia, Montgomery, Summersville and Institute are providing coverage or other assistance.
