CEDAR GROVE, W.Va. - A 30-year-old Pond Gap man was killed early this morning when his pickup truck slammed into a tractor-trailer on U.S. 60 in Cedar Grove.
Jason Balser, 30, was apparently heading east about 12:50 a.m. in a 1989 Chevrolet pickup truck when he apparently crossed the center line and slammed head-on into a 2007 Kenworth tractor driven by 39-year-old Charles Carte of St. Albans, according to Lt. Bryan Stover of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
The tractor is owned by Better Trucking LLC of Charleston.
Balser was pronounced dead at the scene. Carte was taken to CAMC General Hospital.
The wreck closed U.S. 60 for several hours.
Elsewhere in the region, slick roads were blamed for numerous fender-benders and minor accidents, particularly in Putnam and Cabell counties. Minor accidents or cars sliding off roads were reported on Interstate 64, W.Va. 2, U.S. 60 and numerous county roads.
Emergency dispatchers in Putnam County reported a dump truck on its side at about 8 a.m. on W.Va. 34 in Hurricane. The road was expected to be closed for several hours.
