Halloween events
City of Nitro and the Nitro High School Show Choir will host the Haunted Trail of Ridenour Lake. This year's theme is Hollywood Horrors, and the price of admission is $5 per person. "Monsters of the Big Screen" are in the woods, waiting for your arrival. We welcome all ages, but this trail is not recommended for very young children. Concessions are available. The dates of times of the haunted trail are as follows: Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18, 19, 25, 26, 28 and 31. Times are 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and 7 to 10 p.m. all other nights. Madison/Danville Jaycees: Haunted House, beginning at 7 p.m., Oct. 17, 18, 24, 25 and 31 and Nov. 1. House is across the tracks from McDonald's at Boone Lumber Co. in Danville. Tickets are $5. For information, call 369-9090.
Charleston Parks and Recreation Department: Halloween Extravaganza, noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 25, Magic Island for children ages 3-10. Activities include corn hole toss, musical monster game, magic tricks, mask making, costume contest, haunted storytelling with South Charleston High School students, parade and trick-or-treating around Magic Island with Charleston Parks and Recreation, Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, Charleston Police Department, Charleston Fire Department, WVSU 4H Extension Program, WQBE and Electric 102.7 Radio and others. South Charleston Community Center will host a Senior Halloween Costume Dance (50 and older) and time of fellowship from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at Little Creek Golf Course. Music will be provided by DJ Chuck Swigger. Debbie Bird will be on hand to teach a new dance. Donations will be taken at the door. Prizes will be given for best costumes and a 50/50 drawing will be held. For more information, call the community center at 744-4731.
Summersville Volunteer Fire Department will host its second Costume/Fire Prevention Parade for area children on Oct. 26. Children are asked to come in Halloween costumes and meet at 1:30 p.m. at the Summersville Baptist Church parking lot. The parade will go down Main Street, onto Church Street and proceed to the fire station. At the fire station, children will be advised about fire safety, given a tour of the fire station, asked to watch a movie about fire prevention and be served refreshments. Prizes for most creative costumes will be awarded. Anyone wanting to make a monetary contribution to the parade can make checks payable to the Summersville Fire Department Fire Prevention Parade. Town of Chesapeake will have a Halloween party beginning at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 in the recreation room beside City Hall.
Charleston Town Center will have Wee Trick-or-Treat from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 30 throughout the mall. A Halloween costume contest will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 in Macy's Court. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. CTC Mall gift cards will be given for the funniest costume (children ages 10 and under); most original costume (children ages 10 and younger); and best family costume (siblings or parents and children can enter).
Elk Valley Community Education Center will sponsor its annual Halloween Party from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Elk Valley Community Center. Refreshments, games, prizes and more will be featured. For more information, call the Elk Valley Community Education Center at 965-3722.
Town of Handley will have a party from 7 to 8 p.m., Oct. 30, at the Handley Community Center.
