A fight that "bordered on a riot" at CAMC General Hospital's emergency room led to three arrests this week, according to Charleston police.
One man brandished a loaded handgun, another punched a hole in a wall, and a woman struck someone with a telephone during the Thursday evening brawl in the Emergency Department's waiting room, police said.
A CAMC security guard responded after an emergency room worker hit the department's electronic "panic button," according to hospital officials. Police arrived minutes later.
"Security acted swiftly and appropriately in disarming the man with the gun," said Elizabeth Pellegrin, a CAMC spokeswoman. "We're incredibly grateful no one was injured."
CAMC security cameras captured the altercation on tape, which has been turned over to Charleston police, Pellegrin said.
In a report, Charleston police officers said the fight "bordered on a riot."
"It took several officers to secure the scene," said Sgt. Aaron James of the Charleston Police Department. "There was a fight in progress involving numerous individuals. After the arrests, the crowd settled down."
Brandon Edward Brothers, 21, of Columbus, Ohio, was arrested on brandishing charges after allegedly pulling a loaded semi-automatic pistol on several people in the emergency room waiting area Thursday, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha Magistrate Court.
Terrance Devon Edgerton, 21, of Charleston, was arrested on charges of obstruction and destruction of property.

Edgerton resisted police officers and refused to put his hands behind his back, according to a complaint. Edgerton also allegedly punched a hole in the wall of the emergency room.
Also, Angela Edgerton, 41, of Charleston, was arrested on destruction of property charges, after allegedly picking up a hospital telephone and hitting someone with it, police said.
James said the fight started with Terrance Edgerton and an unknown male, who fled the scene.
Brothers, who was released on a $15,000 surety bond, had a concealed-weapons permit to carry the pistol, according to police. The handgun was confiscated.
Angela and Terrance Edgerton were released on $1,500 personal recognizance bonds.
Thursday's melee was the second time Charleston police responded to a disturbance at CAMC General Hospital this week.
Police arrested a Charleston man on obstruction charges Tuesday after he became verbally irate and uncooperative, requesting to be taken to the "drunk tank," according to a criminal complaint.
