Cedar Lakes Winterfest

RIPLEY, W.Va. -- Concerts, craft show and classes and dinner theaters are all part of the sixth annual Winterfest, beginning Nov. 22 and continuing through Jan. 2 at Cedar Lakes Conference Center near Ripley.

More than 500,000 lights are in the free nightly display from 6 to 9 p.m.

Among the highlights are:

  • Heidi Muller and Bob Webb play seasonal and mountain music in a free concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 1.
  • Ripley and Ravenwood high schools choral concert and dinner is 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5.
  • Craft show and classes are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 5.
  • Jackson County Players perform in dinner theater at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 18 and 19.

    Train excursion to NYC

    HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- A few seats are still available for the Dec. 6-9 trip by rail to New York City from Huntington and Charleston in lounge cars owned by the Collis P. Huntington Railroad Historical Society.

    The trip goes through the New River Gorge, over the Allegheny Mountains and up the East Coast to New York City. Meals will be served en route and on return. Three nights' lodging will be at the Hampton Inn in Linden, N.J.
