LOGAN, W.Va. -- Its new name, "The Aracoma Story -- Spirits & Legends," reflects changes made to the outdoor drama that has that has been staged at Chief Logan State Park for more than three decades.

In a news release, director Bill France said the play's script has been completely rewritten to feature new characters, new plot twists and surprises scattered throughout the historical drama.

"We are simply telling the story from a whole new perspective. One that brings the audience closer to the story and a part of what's happening onstage," France said.

Performances began last week and continue Sunday, and Tuesday through Aug. 8. All performances start at 8:30 p.m.

France, who played Boling Baker in 1991, and Geoff Allen of North Carolina collaborated to adapt the new version of the show.

"Feedback has been great. People having been calling the new version more like an 'experience' and less like a play," France said.

In a news release, Jim Frye, president of The Aracoma Story Inc., called the production new and fresh.

According to Frye, "Anyone who has seen 'The Aracoma Story' in previous years will see something totally different with 'The Aracoma Story -- Spirits & Legends.' The historical story of Princess Aracoma, Boling Baker, Chief Cornstalk, Chief Logan, Oceana and the rest of the Shawnee people has not been changed, but how the story is told has changed considerably. We are excited to bring this show to our stage."
