'Midsummer Saltations'
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Art Store announces an invitational group show of young artists, "Midsummer Saltations."
Uniquely talented emerging artists from around the country have been invited to exhibit at The Art Store during July. Maggie Starcher, registrar and artist at The Art Store, curated the show. This will be the first group exhibition at The Art Store for all of the artists chosen for the exhibition.
The show features paintings, sculptures and prints from local West Virginia talents: Cassie Clements, Huntington; Nik Botkin, Nitro; Justin Gillispie, Charleston; as well as Charleston residents Jon Salo and Maitreyi Doshi, who studied at Concord College. Painters from New York to California, who studied at the Rhode Island School of Design with Starcher, include Marisa Keris, Meghan Gordon, Sam Carr-Prindle, Lisa Rock and Alissa McKindrick. All of the artists studied art as undergraduates, and some are pursuing or hold graduate degrees.
The concept of the exhibition centers on the evolutional theory of saltation, a drastic and sudden evolutionary change. Exhibiting a new generation of artists, many of whom use classical mediums such as oil on linen and printmaking, saltation references the artists' young conceptual innovations and new methodologies for art making.
The show opens July 11 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and runs through July 31. The Art Store is open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, 1013 Bridge Road, Charleston; www.theartstorewv.com or 304-345-1038.
