CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- They aren't words you hear very often: an Ang Lee comedy.

He hasn't really made one since he directed "The Wedding Banquet'' and "Eat Drink Man Woman'' back-to-back in 1993 and 1994. And so, on the heels of the emotionally heavy "Brokeback Mountain'' and "Lust, Caution,'' Lee lightens up with "Taking Woodstock'' -- and the result is too lightweight.

Brokeback Mountain was a fantastic story by Annie Proux which translated well onto the screen. I thought it was a fine film, and an accurate portrayal of those forbidden loves, complicated by the taboo of homosexuality among the more "tough" kinds of men.

There was a perfectly fine Woodstock film released decades ago. There's no point in trying to personalize it in film and turn it into some individual love story.
