CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Have any stray pearls lying around in dresser drawers or jewelry boxes?

If so, you can donate them to Girls Night Out, the annual summer benefit that raises money to help battered women and their children.

"Girls in Pearls: The Black and White Bash" will take place from 6 to 11 p.m. Aug. 13 at the law offices of Farmer, Cline and Campbell (the former Sunrise Mansion) on Myrtle Road.

"Pearls of Hope," a specially created piece to be made from the donated pearls, will be auctioned at the fundraiser.

Donors are asked to bring their extra pearls to Petit Jewelers, 1012 1/2 Bridge Road, by July 13. A tax receipt will be given immediately.

Cultured or freshwater pearls, any shape, size and color will be accepted for Scott Petit to create a unique necklace.

Donations of gold add-on beads for accent also are needed.

Petit showroom hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Tickets to the annual affair are $75 through Aug. 7, and $100 effective Aug. 8 and at the door. Guests must be age 21 to attend. Tickets may be purchased at ywcacharleston.org, by calling 304-340-3573, or at the following Bridge Road shops: Charlie, Pea Pod Printing, Charleston Needlepoint Co., Geraniums and Yarrids.

Proceeds go to the YWCA's Resolve Family Abuse Program/Hope House Domestic Violence Shelter.
