Holiday preview
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Museum Shop at the Huntington Museum of Art offers its annual Holiday Preview from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 3. Refreshments will be served.
Holiday gift, food and decorating items will be highlighted along with artwork by regional artists. The Museum Shop also features jewelry, art books, photo frames, purses, scarves, educational children's items, cards and stationery.

WVU art museum
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Robert Bridges, curator of the Mesaros Galleries in the WVU Creative Arts Center, has been promoted to curator of the new Art Museum at WVU.
Bridges has extensive experience as a curator, having organized exhibits since 2000 in the Mesaros Galleries. Exhibitions he has curated include "Ceramic Art from the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute" and two national shows featuring the work of American Modernist Blanche Lazzell, a West Virginia native. Bridges is a co-editor of the book "Blanche Lazzell, The Life and Work of an American Modernist" (2004) from WVU Press.
Part of the university master plan for 2010, the College of Creative Arts is moving forward on a $10.6 million capital project. Renovation of the former Erickson Alumni Center began in August. When completed, the building will contain staff offices, educational programming space and a museum shop. The new museum facility will be constructed adjacent to this building. Now in the design phase, the new museum will contain about 5,300 square feet of exhibition space, including gallery space for the WVU Art Collection and also for changing exhibitions. A climate-controlled storage area will protect the art collection numbering about 2,500 works of art.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- This year's juror for the ninth annual National Miniature Exhibition will be Brent Thomas, an assistant professor of art at West Virginia State University.
More than 140 pieces of art are included in the show, including some three-dimensional works.

Opening reception for the public and artists will be 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Renaissance Art Gallery and School. New this year is the People's Choice awards, with each galley attendee invited to vote for their favorite work. The show runs through Dec. 5.

Faculty showcase
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Marshall University Department of Art and Design is showcasing the artwork of its new and adjunct faculty through Nov. 5 in the Birke Art Gallery.
New full-time faculty represented in the show includes Miyuki Cook, Daniel Kaufmann, Natalie Larsen and Eric Ruegg. Adjunct faculty includes Linda Anderson, Daniel Cook, Mark Earnhart, John Farley, Natalie Gibbs and Kristin Zammiello.
A reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 3 in the gallery atrium. The reception includes a "slide jam" at 7 p.m. in 154 Smith Hall. The slide jam is a compilation of brief visual presentations by each participating artist of a broader spectrum of his or her work.
The Birke Art Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays. It is located in Smith Hall on the corner of Hal Greer Boulevard and Third Avenue in Huntington. Admission is free and all events are open to the public.
Commission on the Arts
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Commission on the Arts of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History will hold its annual public comment meeting from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Lakeview Resort in Morgantown. The meeting is open to the public.
Citizens can address members of the commission and make recommendations related to the commission's grant programs. Information may be presented in writing prior to the meeting or in person at the meeting.
If unable to attend, send comments to West Virginia Division of Culture and History, The Culture Center, Arts Section, Attention Jeff Pierson, 1900 Kanawha Blvd. E., Charleston, WV 25305-0300, by Nov. 6.
In-person presentations are limited to 10 minutes. Registration is not required and presentations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested parties are encouraged to call in advance of the meeting. Individuals who plan to appear before the Commission should submit their comments in writing at registration on Nov. 10.
