Memphis minstrel

By Staff reports

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Memphis guitarist/singer/folklorist Andy Cohen performs in a Wandering Minstrel FOOTMAD concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 520 Kanawha Blvd. W.

The concert amounts to what Cohen's website describes as "Country Blues 101": "It's broader than that, of course, covering material from before the '20s to about the '50s, and ranging over the several states to which Memphis is adjacent.... In my shows, I do material by Rev. Davis, John Hurt, Big Bill, Gus Cannon, Frank Stokes, Memphis Minnie, Bukka White, Barbecue Bob, Charlie Patton, Ted Bogan, Henry Spaulding or any of a hundred other blues people."

Tickets are $8. Call 304-415-3668 or visit www.footmad.org.
